The snacks market in Angola is set to see solid growth during 2023, with ongoing demand supported by the fact that several snacks categories offer a wide range of products across the price spectrum. In addition, the robust expansion of local manufacturing due to government incentives and improving trading conditions are making a wide range of savoury snacks such as potato chips available at even more affordable prices.
Dulceria Nacional is a new factory which opened in June 2022 and is a partnership between Arcor Group (a leading Argentinian multinational confectionery company) and Webcor Group (one of Angola’s largest food manufacturing companies, known by Angolans as AngoAlissar). The factory will produce Bon o Bon chocolate at a rate of 3,500 tonnes per year and will move on to producing cookies and sweets.
Angola is a tropical country with potentially warm weather throughout the year, and thus ice cream is a popular snacking option that is enjoyed year-round. There are various imported brands available in the category, which tend to be relatively expensive and compete with home-made ice cream, which is particularly popular amongst low-income consumers, especially Mucua ice cream.
Inflation continued to drop throughout 2022 allowing purchasing power to increase.
Snacks are normally purchased from small local grocers, supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores and street vendors.
With the continuous drops in the rate of inflation, consumers are regaining their purchasing power and habits of bulk buying.
