New laws were recently passed in Mexico that ban the use of partially hydrogenated oils in the manufacturing of all packaged food and soft drinks. Crucially, this regulation applies to all types of edible oils and cooking fats.
Mexican consumers are becoming more interested in natural cooking ingredients and meals as they look to reduce their intake of highly processed food and minimise the amount of artificial ingredients in their diets. This a reflection of the better value for money that natural food is seen to represent, as much as the general view that highly processed food is inherently more harmful than natural food.
The forecast period is expected to see significant increases in demand for dairy free cooking ingredients and meals, a trend which can be seen as part of the wider shift towards plant-based nutrition and plant-based lifestyles among Mexican consumers.
